GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. (APN) — Dozens gathered in Grand Rapids Saturday morning at Ah-Nab-Awen Park rallying to support immigrant and workers rights for international workers day.
Community leaders, union workers and advocates for immigrants from several organizations like IATSE 26 (International Alliance of Theatrical Stage Employees), AFM 56 (American Foundation for Musicians), UAW and more joined together to voice their concerns over what they called attacks on rights for workers and immigrants in response to actions taken by the Trump administration. Rallygoers held picket signs that read “stop the deportations” and “fight trumps attacks.”
“With the Trump administration it’s not just the unions that are under attack, It’s the working class and the working class is the UAW…is the unions,” said one rally speaker.
The crowd marched through downtown after community leaders were done speaking. As they marched, the Grand Rapids Police Department road alongside rallygoers on bikes, reminding people not to walk in the street.
